Suez Canal achieved revenue of $ 451.9 million in January of this year, an increase of 14% over the channel revenues of $ 395.2 million in January 2017.
This came in a statement published by the Suez Canal Authority on Wednesday morning on the prime minister’s website.
Says team chairman Mehab Mamesh :
“The marketing policies adopted by the Suez Canal Authority over the past years have succeeded in increasing the rates of transit ships and loads of the channel”.
The cargo of vessels passing through the Suez Canal in January of this year amounted to 87 million and 760 thousand tons, an increase of 11.6% from the tonnage of ships during January of last year, which amounted to 78 million and 673 thousand tons, according to the periodic navigation statistics issued by the Suez Canal.
During the past three months, the Suez Canal has been granted discounts on transit fees for container vessels, oil tankers and natural gas, with a range of 20 to 75 percent.
The Suez Canal has increased revenues by 5.4 percent to $ 5.3 billion in 2017 from $ 5 billion in 2016.
