Dr Joseph Muscat has just been sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Malta, for the next five years. Muscat will be serving as Prime Minister after winning the General Election in a historic victory, garnering a 55.04% majority of all valid votes cast.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat with his wife and his two children walked down Republic Street on his way to the Grandmaster’s Palace, paying tribute to those who gathered in Valletta to continue to show their support.
In the Ambassadors’ Hall, the Prime Minister in the presence of the Attorney General and the Chief Justice was given the Oath of Appointment by the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. The President, under Article 80 of the Constitution of Malta has the power to appoint the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is the seventh serving Prime Minister since the Independence.
