MOU opens avenues of collaboration with Kosovo

“Malta and Kosovo can collaborate on various levels, as we can share knowledge on numerous areas that have experienced tremendous growth in Malta” said Anton Borg President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry as he welcomed the President of the Republic of Kosovo Her Excellency Atifete Jahjaga, and the President of the Republic of Malta Her Excellency Marie Louise Coleiro Preca who presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Malta Chamber and the Kosovar Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Borg went on to explain that in the recent past, Malta has gone through an unprecedented economic boom, registering 6.3% economic growth for 2015.

“Indeed, this makes Malta a business partner like no other.  Our strategic position in the Mediterranean, our European Union membership, intimate links with North African countries as well as a stable and reputable jurisdiction, are but a few reasons for collaboration and investment opportunities between our two countries” Anton Borg illustrated.

Referring directly to the Memorandum of Understanding that the Malta Chamber entered with the Kosova Chamber of Commerce, he said that it would pave the way for a mutual understanding of both countries’ potential to stimulate economic growth and to provide opportunities for investment and trade.

“On our part, we shall encourage Maltese valid professionals and entrepreneurs who have built solid economic niches, to engage their expertise in order to achieve similar ambitious goals in Kosovo.  Our professionals in Financial Services, ICT, Aviation industry, Tourism sector, Health and Education services, Road Construction and maintenance, to mention a few, can help develop bigger and stronger sectors in Kosovo” Mr Borg said.

“I sincerely hope that our future collaboration with the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce will be a solid basis on which to build, and take to the next level, the relationship between our two countries” Anton Borg augured.

The signing was followed by an Institutional Meeting between Kosovo and Malta which was addressed by the Kosovo Minister for Trade and Industry Hykmete Bajrami and the Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business the Hon Christian Cardona.
